What should I do immediately if an FIR is filed against me?
Contact a lawyer before making any statement to police. Whether you need pre-arrest bail depends on the nature of the offence — acting early, before an arrest happens, gives meaningfully more options than reacting after the fact.
Is bail automatic, or does it require a court application?
It requires an application, and the process differs depending on whether it's pre-arrest (anticipatory) or post-arrest bail, and whether the offence is bailable or non-bailable under the relevant law. This isn't something to navigate without advice, since the details materially affect the outcome.
Can a cybercrime complaint under PECA be filed for online harassment?
Yes — the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act covers online harassment, defamation, and related digital offences, and a complaint can be filed with the FIA's Cyber Crime Wing.
